And so begins a month on Whisky island, also known as Islay.
As the home of eight distilleries whisky is very much a part of island life.
As the ferry brought us across from the mainland we passed Ardbeg and Laphroaig. We came ashore at Port Ellen, once a distillery but now a maltings. We drove through Bowmore and passed numerous piles of peat being cut and stacked for drying.
It's only day one and I need to pace myself but it promises to be a very relaxing holiday.
